The Cape Town Ocular Oncology Service is one of the few centres to have developed the specialized skills, equipment and personnel needed to treat both common and rare cancers of the eye in adults and children. The team of doctors includes ophthalmologists, radiation oncologists, paediatric oncologists and pathologists, supported by highly skilled physicists and technologists.
Dr Lapere and Dr Scholtz practice at Melrose House, 14 Palymra Road, Claremont. Dr Lapere practices as a sessional consultant at Groote Schuur Hospital. Dr Mustak practices at Groote Schuur Hospital and UCT Private Academic Hospital. Special investigations take place both at the practice and at Peninsula Eye Clinic’s Laser Suite in Kingsbury Hospital, Claremont. All radioactive brachytherapy procedures take place at UCT Private Academic Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital. Other eye procedures take place at Peninsula Eye Hospital in Claremont.
UCT Academic Hospital
The University of Cape Town Private Academic Hospital is situated in Anzio Road, Observatory, adjacent to Groote Schuur Hospital. This is the only facility in South Africa to offer radioactive iodine plaque brachytherapy for intraocular tumours.
Melrose Practice
Melrose practice is situated at 14 Palmyra Road, Claremont. The professional and friendly staff will tend to your every need, and make your visit with us a memorable one. The practice is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and examination equipment.
Laser Suite
The laser suite is situated in Peninsula Eye Clinic, on the ground floor of Claremont Hospital in the Kingsburg/Claremont complex. This facility is shared by all the eye specialists in the surrounding area. Intravitreal injections, laser procedures, Orbscans and fluorescein angiographies are performed at this facility. The friendly staff (Bibi, Jackie and Marselle) will make you feel right at home and tend to your every need.
Peninsula Eye Hospital
The Peninsula Eye Hospital is situated adjacent to the laser suite, on the ground floor of Claremont Hospital in the Kingsburg/Claremont complex. All intraocular procedures, either under intravenous sedation or general anaesthetic, are performed here.
